I recently bought a used copy of Vegas Video 4.0, and have had a few problems figuring out the best way to work with the software. I have the manual, but it doesn't seem to mention this problem or how to work around it. This may get a bit windy, but I would really appreciate any tips you can give me, so i want to make sure you understand what my problem is.
I am making a video drawing off of several DVDs full of different footage. I will import clips from one dvd, save the project and all the trimmed media clips used in the project to a folder. Next time I work in this project, I will import different clips from a different DVD and save THOSE new clips along with the ones I already had. My problem is that everytime I do this, Vegas doesn't ignore the clips already saved, or even just overwrite them. Vegas just saves a whole new set of copies of those previously saved clips. Everytime I resave my project, I end up with more and more copies of all my trimmed clips. I am having to go in and manually delete the copies. I tried something else, set up two project folders and switch between the two. For example, save to one empty folder, then next time save to another empty folder...etc. This saves me from manually deleting all the copies, but it presents another problem, now all my saved and trimmed media clips names are getting longer and longer, with each new save adding to the name three zeros...ie, SunsetFootage-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-000.avi. Each save adds another three zeros! What is going on here? This doesn't seem like a very logical way to set up a program! Am I missing something? Can anyone PLEASE help me out on this?

Thank you in advance!

Are you trying to make one dvd out of all of the clips? If so there is no need to save all of the clips every time you are done editing. All you need to do is save the project.

Yes, Exactly...You don"t have to render you Clips every time Just save the Project and all of the Clips Properties and any editing and effects ect will be saved in the Project file and when you re-load the project file it will start were you left off when you saved the Project file....
You only need to render the Clips when you are Finnished....
