DVD-R problems with Sony DRX-530UL

I purchased a Sony DRX-53oUL external DVD burner about five months ago. I have only been burning DVD+R discs with no problems. It is a multi format burner that supports all - & + R & RW DVD formats. I just yesterday tried to burn a DVD-R disc with no luck. MY DVD shows the disc to be burning but at the end of the burn I get all kinds of error codes. Nothing is burned to the disc. I took it out of the machine and put it in my Panasonic stand alone burner and it burned in that machine just fine. Anybody out there experiance the same problem with this device? I play in a blues band and I videotape all our performances I like to edit the tapes on my computer. Most of my friends and family have oldeer DVD players that won't play the +R discs. I was using the Panasonic to burn my discs but I have no editing capabilities with it. Using my computer I can inhance the sound, video and add titles and special effects. I wish they would produce an external burner for computer that didn't have so many issues> Ont that was just a plug and play.
