I'm a bit new to this, but I'm using DVDx v2.2 to rip DVDs to VCD. I have less than 5GB storage and read that this was the best program to use for my limited HD. I'd like to improve quality of video by frameserving, and read that TMPGEnc was best way to do this. I've downloaded TMPGEnc v2.521 but I'd like to try to get step by step instructions for how to link the two programs (ie. I'm somewhat familiar with using DVDx, and I have an idea of how to use TMPGenc, but I don't know how to use the two together.) It seemed as though you should be able to select TMPGEnc in the drop-down window of "Premiere Plug-in encoder" under "Output settings", but my drop-down window just says "not enabled" and I'm not sure how to get DVDx to recognize TMPGEnc.

Any help would be appreciated. By the way, does TMPGenc allow you to split a movie into chapters or do you need a separate program to do that.

First, I recommend you download the latest version of DVDx.(DVDx 2.3). In the help file is there a guide on how to connect it to TMPGEnc. You also need to download the videoserver plugin:
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/svcdtools/VideoServerPackagev0951.zip
Another excellent site is Doom9. They have a guide on how to do this as well:
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdx-tmpg.htm

Hope it helps! I used the integrated and doom9 guides and it works for me to rip a DVD to VCD/SVCD.

Another solution is to use the Intervideo DVD Copy program, not freeware but fast, good quality and very simple to use.

Cheers! Nikolai
