O.K. i downloaded dvd shrink and i go to open my files and i cant find the file folder with my videos in it for one thing they are AVI. and not a dvd format. i tried to reauthor them into dvd but still couldnt open the file folder all my videos are in. all i am trying to do is make 1 movie fit on one dvd+r 5 and the way my files are when i go to burn using My DVD. i am always in the negative by at least 800 mb. I have dr. divx but i am running into problems with that too i can easily make two files but i am confused. I thought i could use dvd shrink and make it work but i cant even display the files. I need major help. i would appriciate any advise i can get.

DVD Shrink cannot work with AVI files. They have to be DVD-Video files or an ISO image of DVD-Video files.

When you author them in Sonic My DVD does it make a folder with files or a single ISO file? If it makes files select Open Disc and find the VIDEO_TS folder. If it make an ISO then select File > Open Disc Image and find the ISO file.

O.K. it makes and file under my dvds and i open one and i get a Cache file, a Jacket_P file, a soures file, and a mydvd "garfield" file. i try to open them and i dont see ISO or a VIDEO_TS folder either. So what do i do now?

I am not familiar with My DVD. Do any of the folders have BUP, IFO, VOB files?

No i dont see that anywhere. See i have Dr DIVX and i dont know exactly how many MG I need to set it to make the file and i dont really want the quality to be crappy. and i dont really under stand when i go toburn the file it is so much larger on the dvd. I know this is a pretty basic question but I have just started fooling with all this stuff a couple of months ago and this is new to me but i learn fast. I know that the quality of the audio makes a difference. and i always want the best quality. Thank you for taking the time to help me. I am so confused.

You have Shrink but are you using it? If you want ot use shrink go to this thread for all the info you need to get started.

well i havent been able to use DVD Shrink because the files i need to shrink are AVI and will not even show up under the open files and the thing is i am trying to make one movie fit on one 4.7 mg dvd+r. so i thought DVD Shrink will work and i cant use it on AVI files then i have Dr. divx but it has stop working all together in the middle of encoding it says dr divx has encountered a problem and has to close. and i cant get any feed back from my divx support forum or from the online chat. so i am stuck. all i need to do is to encode the files to fit on one disk and it wont work to save my life i am just so frustrated. i thank you for the help though. i have no idea what is going wrong.

If you want to convert your AVI files into a DVD-Video, then you need to encode them to a DVD compliant MPEG-2 format and then author them.

I can't help you with any of the Sonic My DVD software. I don't know it's abilities or how it works. Does it give you the option to save the DVD-Video files to your hard drive instead of burning them to a DVD.

Once you have authored your DVD, then if it is too large to fit on a disc, you can use DVD Shrink to make it smaller.
