From a newbie.
To join such a group is because one has 1001 questions. I?ll ask not that many, but a few: The prime reason that I get into DVD back-up is that my grandchildren using for their parties music videos from their parents. That way, some disk played their last song & picture.
1 What is the technical difference between a +writer and a ?writer?
2 A DVD (commercial product) has some files, which are not necessary for playing the movie. Which ones are these? I found *.VOB, *.IFO and *.BUB.
3 And which ones I have to copy to a possible 2nd disk, if I don?t want to compress at all? Is that possible at all?
4 The second reason to get into DVD-writing are also my grandchildren. All VHS and S-VHS tapes must be archived on disks. I tried WINDVD Creator Plus v2.0B14.125 (SONIC), which does not allow bad shots to be edited, e.g. increase brightness at dark shots or visa-versa. The splitting in smaller parts of a 4-hour tape is also a bit cumbersome and very very time consuming (I guess that is not to be overcome by any software). In addition, sometimes after editing it misses somehow the format, deleting and burning process. Although the progress indicator shows in fact progress, the LED of the writer does not show any writing, because it stays green. At writing, it changes normally to red. Any recommendations for a more reliable program?
5 In your voting list for DVD writers: you addressing home-movie-players with a recording facility or products for a PC? Obviously, for editing and transferring I have a PC product (BenQ 656A, No. DH1). Tested with ?cdspeed? (from Nero) it gives me on top ?ATAPI DVD +RW 8x4x12 VB2H7?. Is that confirming that I have a ?+writer? ?
6 Are there also for home-movie-players ?+? and ?-? players? Because on my older Pioneer I can play copies from the above writer. On my newer Toshiba Player, I can?t. I looked through both specifications but can?t find any reference to that. By the way, this is also is true for my BenQ writer. Nothing mentioned in the spec?s.
7 Is it rue, that you get +disks and ?disks for writing and re-writing (4,7 GB) ? Up to now I used a well-known brand, but without a ?+? nor a ?-?. Are disks with higher volumes on the market? Certainly not here (in RSA).
8 Do I have to install ASPI drivers?
