hey im on a college connection i believe t3
my connection is good, loads pages quickly and fast http downloads for the most part
however, im lucky get 1 kb/s on my bit torrent
im guessing this is because some ports are closed in the college
is there anything i can do to speed up my downloads?
(i also play cs and i ping well out of game but when i try to join the security module download takes for ever and in game pings reach 1000s)
i use the abc 2.6.8 client
Try using the Azureus client, because during installation it will do a Internet Settings check to see whether your Internet Settings are fully compatible with BitTorrent and so you'll achieve maximum speeds.
Also, it's a really fast client, and one of the best out there.
your college probably has a firewall on the central server blocking the needed port to properly access bittorrent, sorry - its what there like :(
plus, bear in mind that its a college - it may be a T3 But, how many kids go there? how many kids do you reckon are downloading or trying to download just like you, or even just playing online games - do you get bad speeds with any other P2P software?
lol, if the other software is slow - then you know its cos of all the other people, try to find a time when you think that all the other kids wont be downloading, for example, 5:00AM? lol, at 11? etc etc
if the others go fast then its because of the college firewall, that im afraid you cant do anything about
but - because it is a college comp go to this site to get the software - they are all clean copys with no spyware or adware crap :D
i think it is the firewall
my friend uses blubster and download music is pretty quick, sometimes in seconds
i downloaded from http in the 100s and after chaning
connectin to irc with port 6999 didnt work so i switched it to 7000 and i was dwlding at 100s kb/s as well
tried using azure program and tried changing to port to 7000 but no luck
my school is pretty small maybe 3500 kids in the whole school
so if its the firewall im guessing theres nothing i can do?
is there anyway like to find a high speed port thats open and change bit torrent to use that port? would that work ?
hmm - usually REALLY REALLY high ports arent restricted on colleges... you can try putting in a really high port, short of that i dont think u can do anything sorry dude - hey, you are at college to learn afterall ;D
3500 kids? - what if there all downloading at top speeds? ;D
