captured home videos (vhs) to avi files using windv, and have encoded some files to mpeg2 using tmpgenc, but with high settings (like 8000 bitrate, CBR, etc.) to try and keep best quality, but file sizes are big. I know that these files will be considerably large anyways, but i know that i am probably set a little high for vhs video.

So, what would be the OPTIMAL tmpgenc settings for VHS video WITHOUT sacrificing ANY quality, but reducing the mpeg2 file size? or is there a better encoder? i really don't care about encoding speed....thx
