Hi recently on another forum i noticed someone say that keeping a DVD-ROM drive and DVD-RW drive in your system is a good thing because DVD-RW drives are locked at 2x when ripping data and DVD-Rom drives are not.
Is this only important when ripping and not compressing? Say like using DVD Decryptor just to rip a dvd that needs no compression as to DVD2one which rips and compresses at the same time. With DVD2one would i see a difference in overall speed or just with DVD Decryptor using a DVD-Rom drive as to my DVD-RW drive?
How can i tell it my DVD-RW drive is indeed locked at 2x? I have a nec 1300-AD with latest firmware update.
Usually it take me 15-20min to rip a DVD movie using DVD2one, on my old Celeron machine it would take 40min-1hr to rip, now im on a 2.5Ghz Pentium 4. Is that about the time i should expect and improving would solely depend on a faster processor?
i was able to go as high as 11.5 x with a plextor 712A using the DVD Decrypter, but when i used the DVD shrink
to encode it from the disk it only went as high as 2x
even after i got the new firmware. i tried a TDK 1280B burner and it too was at 2x.it will take about 1 hr to encode. but a friend can do it in 10 min. WTF am i doing wrong
Plextor DVD burners have a SpeedRead feature that unlocks the drive's rip speeds.
This is normally activated manually by holding the eject button for three seconds on an empty tray. The light will blink green three times and the tray ejects ready to read the disc at full speed.
The newest version of DVD Decrypter will automatically enable this feature when using a Plextor burner to rip. Shrink can't.

why is anyone using DVD Decrypter to rip a movie DVD Shrink does everything i just put the movie in the rom and a blank in the burner click open movie let movie play until it finishes encoding then click backup and what drive folder you need then hit yes or ok let the system do it's job and i get a perfect movie i've done over 200 movies so far. i've even gotten movies off of bit torrent copied them to a disc after putting the parts together then i used DVD Shrink, i'm not bragging but i have bought xcopy and other software and this is the best free one i've found. i even get tv shows and also record from tv using this same method after encoding.
