Has anyone tried the ANV media with the NEC 2510A drive.I don't know if this is new media on the market but a friend gave me one to try and it only burnt at 4 speed instead of 8 speed.Has anyone else had this problem when using the NEC drive.
Thanks in advance

Is ANV the manufacturer ID? If not what is it?
If they're only burning at 4X I'd say either they're crap, your drive's firmware doesn't recognize them as being 8X capable or both.

The bulk of NEC drives for sale are OEM so NEC doesn't have an official site with firmwares for them. This is from their website:
Quote: Our drives are sold directly to computer manufacuters. Please contact the company that sold you the drive for drivers, firmware and support.
Technical support contact: oem.products@necsam.com
I'd suggest getting your firmwares from http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php . I imagine you already know of this site, but just in case ;)

{DV 3141} ANV Ritek A-Grade (8x) DVD-R
This media has been designed to work at 2x -8x in modern 8x DVD writers
This DVD-R disc is for use in drives that take the "DVD-R/RW" format of discs,
Please note that these discs may default to 4x in the NEC 2500/2510 depending on what firmware revision is installed.

I have updated firmware since and these now work at 8 x speed. That's the problem with all the cheap crap NEC drives hey Pieman they all need flashing from time to time.Never had to do this with any of my previous drives i'm sure.
Thanks
