I wasn't sure where else to put this, so I hope it goes here okay...

I need to get an External DVD burner for my laptop. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to what brand/model/etc I should get? Is paying an extra $50 or so worth it to get a better brand?

I was looking at the link below. Anyone know of a better place to get one (online or a local store)?

I highly recommend the Plextor PX-708UF external burner. Plextor is known for their quality and dependability. I have this drive and wouldn't trade it for anything.

i had wondered about that as well (getting an internal and putting it in one of those enclosures)...but when i found them at the store, those things are damn exspensive...know of a good 'cheap' one? I don't want to spend a lot more unless it's really worth it.

well, that lets Plextor out, they ain't cheap. You can get a good LiteOn, soon to be the no.1 manufacturer of DVD burners and a very good brand, for about 70.00 and an external USB or Firewire case for about 20.00 which would total 90.00 + shipping.(about a 100.00)

If you would like the URL, let me know.
