lemme guess this straight, DVD+R blanks are useless for backups?

no their not. depends on what type of media your using and what version of ps2 you have.

If you buy cheap media then their usless.
Version 1 through 4 will only except dvd-r but 5 on up will except dvd+ and -

Since I have a +only burner, I can only use dvd+r! my version3 ps2 CAN read +r and all my backups work perfectly. but it does depend on the brand. bulkpaq dvd+r are totally useless for me.

you know you can switch your burner from +R to -R with a firmware hack right? even though its not for all burners do a search...

Searched several months ago, but didnt really want to risk a firmware hack, I found that my ps2 could read +r media so I didnt need to in the end.

ive got a dvd rw that's only a + (plextor po54a) and it writes them fine. My v7 ps2 reads any game i chuck at it. I havent had it long and i used 25 Ritek printable topped disks that cost me £12 and im now using Samsund.. Samsung seem to be good but they only write at 2.4x not 4.
