Okay, really alot.

I have never ripped a DVD, well, I did once, I ripped one to a VCD. But I really didn't know what I was doing. This is what I want to do, and I am asking what is the easiest way to do it.

I want to capture/rip a 30 second clip from a DVD, and be able to turn that into a WMV file, which will be able to be posted in a forum.

I have a DVD-Rom and a DVD-Burner. I have a GeForce4 Ti 4600 Card, but no capture card. What are my options?

I also have another project, where I want to rip a film, and either, replace the main audio with another one, or add the "other" audio as an alternate commentary like track. But this is for later.

You might want to give VirtualDub a shot. I've not used it extensively but there's no end to the things you can do with it :)

For your other project you may want to take a look at DVD Lab. You can do almost anything you want to a DVD with it. Here's a little intro to it:
