Rip or shrink with dvdshrink and then burn with dvddecrypter or Nero.

yeah, i know i need to shrink them. but when i do try "open files" i get an error:

dvdshrink encountered an error and cannot continue. failed to open file "...\video_ts\video_ts.ifo".
the system cannot find the file specified.

so, that's why i'm stuck. can someone help me out?

Something went astray during the rip most probably with some setting or the directory you output the files to.

At this point you can either use IFOEdit to create new IFO's or start over and use Shrink to rip and compress.

It sounds to me like you ripped the movie in IFO mode and DVD Shrink won't read that. If you can get your hands on the movie rip it again in file mode and then you shouldn't have any problems.

You could also try (In shrink) "File/Open disc image"

And then along comes the lurker.

Brian, I was beginning to wonder if you'd been in a coma or that you're still pissed off at me.

The senior thing.

But since you've been gone awhile you'll note that Vurbal and Nephilim are now moderators, things change. I don't think you're really pissed at me because if that was the case you would have let me know back in June.

I can tell you Nero is way over rated..Shrink and decrypter are some of the best out there..I never use Nero....Takes up to much space and really is'nt that good!

DVD Shrink doesn't burn on its own, in fact it was designed by its author to interface with Nero for burning. If you're referring to Nero recode in comparison with Shrink then I will be the first to inform you that they both have the same author, yep DVD Shrink himself. DVD Decrypter is a ripper but DVD Shrink is also a ripper so if you using DVD Shrink you don't need to use DVD Decrypter too.

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are great apps but I use them only to rip, I use DVD Rebuilder and CCE basic to encode and Nero to burn. DVD Shrink is a great transcoder for beginners, but I wouldn't use it for compression.

I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to rip and I use DVD Rebuilder and Cinema Craft Encoder Basic to encode. Follow the link and you'll know what the experienced at AD have learned.
