No sound when AC3/XVID file plays in DVD player

I have an XVID movie file with AC3 5.1 sound. I have the AC3 filter so that when I play it on a computer it works fine. When I burned it and played it on my DVD player there is video but no sound. Can you help me step by step? Thanks
