How Important is a Video Card?

Hi,

I would like to know about the importance of a good video card (or what role it plays) when capturing and editing video on PC.

For example, when you add special effects (eg. fancy scene transitions) to the video, are they rendered by the video card or system cpu, etc...

I have a wimpy 32MB video card and am debating about upgrading.

I was thinking something like the ATI Radeon 9200SE 128MB AGP video card as an inexpensive alternative.

Any other video card suggestions appreciated:)

honestly, $50 is plenty to spend for a video card intended for doing video editting. in my opinion, you might not even have to upgrade, but if you want to, the Radeon 9200 series is a good choice...

it's better to spend your money on RAM.
