I want to rip a DVD to my hard disk to later burn onto a dual layer DVD [I dont have the burner yet]. However I want to burn them onto a CD in the mean time. Will this be possible with the files on my computer? Or would I have to rip it again in a different way?

The DVD is over 7.5GB. If I burnt this onto a DL DVD would I get all the extras and still maintain good quality 5.1 surr etc? And if I burnt it to a CD how much would quality suffer?

Could someone plz give me a list of the progs I would need for all this. Would really like to get this done tonight because after tonight I'm gonna be very busy for a long time :(

btw Sorry for the n00bish questions.

Cheers.

Yes, no problem at all. And you would have room left over for an episode of the simpsons as well.

I've never made a VCD or a SVCD so I can't really comment.

Dvd decrypter (free), DVD Shrink (free), and Nero 6 (not free but you can download the demo version)

Ah the important things in life. Although would probably swap that for Futurama.

How come that prog is called DVDshrink? Does it actually shrink it ie lower the size/quality?

So with those progs I could rip it, burn it to CD and later to DL DVD? btw when I tried burning an AVI to Cd as a VCD last time with Nero 6 it said the file was too big. If I come across this problem again what do I do.

One other thing [and a little off topic] what DVD playback software do you recommend? I use a few but all have pros and cons. WinDVD plat is in 16:9 so I get 2 huge black bars top and bottom, same with WMP and ASUS DVD screen is ok but is not 5.1. I have a 22" monitor but I still hate losing some. ASUS stretches it nice n big. Is there a good all rounder?

Thanks again.

Yes, it will shrink the size of the original movie file small enough to fit on a blank dvd. And it takes all the copy protection off at the same time, oh yeah and it makes it region free.

As regards VCD questions, we have specific threads for that, pop over there and the knowledgable lads will help you out.

I use Power Dvd, but that also plays it in widescreen mode. But I can right-click anywhere on the screen while the movie is playing and alter the picture any way I like.

Click on this link to take you to the VCD section.

One more question, which I've probably asked before in a different form.

I am currently ripping that film using DVD Shrink. I have left on all the extras etc so its about 4.46GB I think. Once these files are on my HD would I be able to use some prog to convert them into a VCD or would I have to rip the DVD again but without the extra features and with lower quality etc?

Cheers.

You will probably have to remove everything but the movie. Post this question in the VCD section. They will have a better idea.
