blank screen for 1sec on YAMADA 6600

While watching any movies on my YAMADA 6600, the screen goes blank for 1second then comes back on as normal but with the AV channel info (like when you switch AV channels)
This happens throughout the movie, sometimes not for a long spell (maybe 45 minutes without it happening), then happening again; also very frequent on some vcds.
I have watched these vcds before on other dvd players, so I know that they work.
My YAMADA 6600 is connected to my TV via a SCART cable
