I have tried backing up my copy of the new movie The Punisher. I have tried various way to do it.

I have tried with "DVD Decrypter 3.5.1.0", "Alcohol 120% 1.9.2", "DVD Shrink 3.2".

With DVD Decrypter I get the mds image onto my hard drive. I made sure that I retrieved it in Mode "ISO Read".
After the backup is complete, I go to Mode "ISO Write". However, it does not write and the message is as follows: "DeviceIoControl(FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME) Failed! Device [1:1:0] PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D 1.08 (E:)(ATA) Unable to lock volume for exclusive access. Reason: Incorrect Function."

With Alcohol 120% I get to to the first "Image Making Wizard" screen. on that screen I choose "Never Seprate". This page does not allow me to select the "Read Speed"...it is on the page but does not allow me to select it.
I click on Next and the following message comes up "This DVD is a copy protected disc!!! It is currentlt not possible to dump a protected disc with this software. You could get errors during the dumping process. Do you still want to continue dumping?"

With "DVD Shrink" it starts to back it up on my hard drive than athe following message appears "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming error - exception occurred. The handle is invalid".

Can someone please help me. I would greatly appriciate it. Thank you.

Clean your disc -> rip with DVD Decrypter in file mode -> then run it through Shrink

Hi Flip218. I did rip it with DVD Decrypter in "File Mode"

However, I do not know exactly what you mean when you say run it Shrink. I did attempt to run the the "mds image" created by DVD Decrypter through Shrink but it still reads an error message.

After creating my "mds image" file I attemped to run that "mds image" file through Shrink by going to the DVD Shrink 3.2 page and selecting "File" than "Open Image Disc" than I selected the "mds image". This makes it open on my Shrink screen.

I begin to back it up by clicking on ok and it starts to back it up. After about 2 seconds I get the following error on Shrink that reads as follows: "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continued. Programming error - exception occurred. The handle is invalid."

Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Ohh...I did clean the DVD before I started the back up process.

Thank you.

No you didn't ... because if you did it would create a video_ts file. You ripped in ISO mode.

But that shouldn't matter ... Have you tried re-installing Shrink?

You are 100% correct...I followed the steps to rip in File mode to see where the file was saved. By mistake I hit ok so it started saving it.

I did find the folder where it was saved as Video_ts but now I have to wait until it rips it again.

I had forgotten to erase the first file I ripped under the ISO. It is now erased so it will not happen again.

Yes previously I had uninstalled Shringk and reinstalled it as I thought that might have been a problem.

what procedure would I follow in Shrink to run my Video_ts file that will soon be ripped with DVD Decrypter.

Thanks again.

Open Shrink -> Open Files (instead of open disc) -> browse for the video_ts file.

ok, I finally finshed ripping the video_ts filw with the DVD Decrypter.

Now with Shrink I have opened the video_ts file. But as it is saving to my hard drive I receive an error messase that reads as follows: "DVD Shrink encontered an error and cannot continue. Programming error - exception occurred. The handle is invalid."

After receiving this message I once again removed Shrink. I than began to install the new Shrink 3.2.0.15.

I tried running the newly installed program to back up my DVD. I received the same error message as I have before.

Maybe I am still doing something wrong.

Hey Flip after I sent you the last message I decided to use "Instant Copy" since I usually make my backups with that program. The reason I could not use it for Punisher was that I could not get a video_ts file. But you helped with that as you told me to use DVD Decrypter in File Mode.

I woke up this morning to find that my back up was completed with no errors and I watched it on my DVD Player.

Tthank you very much for helping me and for the last thread that you just sent me. I did read the thread and I guess that sometimes older versions are still useful. As Shrink 3.1.7 would make the backup without re-authoring. However, Shrink 3.2 would do it with re-aurthoring.

Well I am going to install Shrink 3.1.7 also as it appears to work as my Instant Copy. Hey a person can never haver to many programs for making backups.

Well thank you very much, once again, for all the assistance you gave me.
