Hey everyone, please excuse such a newbie question.
I'm at a university that blocks file sharing programs. Bittorrent will work but the speeds are horrendous (like 1-2k/sec), of course the actual speed of the wireless network here is much much faster than that. Kazaa, Overnet, DC++, etc. will not connect at all even if I use a socks proxy. I believe they have some kind of packet-filtering system in place. Anyway, someone recently turned me on to Ares Lite, claiming that it was the only p2p app he has found that gives full d/l speed and is no way affected by the blocks the university's wireless network is imposing on us. I tried it, and it's true.
I was just curious, on a technical level, what is it about Ares Lite that makes it different from other p2p?
