Ritek 8X media

I just received a 50 pack of Blank DVD+R They have no
label on them at all but when I put one through the Nero
Toolkit to get the name it shows as RITEK R03. I paid
41.00 for them in Canadian Funds. Blankmeida.ca has them
on sale. Are these good blank DVD's ? Quite new at this
but thanks for your time. VATSIM 5

Ritek R03 should be decent enough though I don't believe they're rated for 8X.

I've just got a load of Ritek +R R03's, they're pukka "arrow" logo branded x8 Ridata. So, at least Ritek think they're x8 capable, even if my 2510 doesn't :o(

Interesting. Mine say Ritek 8X on the inner edge of the
disk. The other thing is that they stink. Believe it or
not when I took the plastic wraping off the cake of them
smelled like fire and smoke. I contacted blankmedia.ca
and they told me that they are not "fire sale" media but
that Ritek are known to stink and have a strange, sometimes strong odour. I am being very honest in this
post when I tell you this. Thanks. VATSIM5.

As a rule ritek don't use the ritek logo as a brand.
Arita,ridata and traxdata are the brands that they
put on their media.I have seen ritek branded media
which has the go4 code but who knows what grade it
is.Some sites sell grade A go4 for £6.99 for 25
and will have another grade A go4 for £9.99 for 25,
They can't both be grade A.

I've never heard of or experienced media smelling like anything especially smoke and the fact that they told you this is normal makes them a bunch of liarheads. I'd demand a refund or exchange if I were you.

Hee hee. It could be your drive's firmware hasn't been optimized for that particular media. Are you running the latest?

No, but the latest NEC F/W is still x4 and even the various hacked F/Ws don't seem to offer any faster, I suppose the R03 is still pretty new stuff.
Ah well, I've only got 25 of the blighters left, I suppose it's a case of "never mind the speed, feel the quality".

I'm pretty sure the latest NEC 2.16 f/w upgrade for the 2510 still has R03 rated at X4 despite Ritek claiming x8 for the media.

Well, I was thinking of begging Herrie to put the fix in his next f/w hack, but as I've only got 25 disks left, I'll just be patient. Then it's T-Ys for me, if I can find any genuine ones in the UK, that is.......

strange.Almost all my media smells.Traxdata, ridata, verbs,anv,piodata,arita clonedisc.They all smell.The only ones that didnt were some fake tys i bought online.....
pork pie,fish pie,cherry pie,hairy pie.Ill eat em all

I just got a 50 pack of ridata dvd-r 8x from new egg and I'd say they smell. Kinda like smoldering plastic.

Yes like smoldering plastic or an electrical smell or
a smokey smell. Tough to describe smells but they
stink. They work well but stink. Vatsim5

A lot of discs seem to have a sort of sickly-sweet, chemical smell to them.

This smell is very strong. Not something anyone could
miss. Even a single disk stinks. The entire cake would
win an award for stink of the century. Again they work
fine and show as genuine Ritek R03 disks at 8x. No
problem with the quality. I have now put the cake of
disks into an old 50 spindle CD rom case, with a cover
so the stink stays there. You may find this funny but
my cat walked passed the cake of Riteks and started
"hissing" at them. True story. VATSIM5

Maybe my Ritek's were pulled out of your bonfire and
resold to me. <Very Big Grin> I know we are getting a
laugh from my sincere comments and this is good. I would
just like to know if this is normal and if others have
purchased blank Media that stinks. Nothing more than that. Thanks again. VATSIM5
