load data corrupted -- poor backup?

backed up DDRMax2 and now get a "load data corrupted" screen upon bootup, while forcing me to choose "cancel load save". then the game proceeds normally except that i can't save my data or extra levels that i unlock after i turn the power off(fortunately, my poor dancing skills prevent many levels from being unlocked, but i'd like access to those that i do unlock). from what i can tell, the rest of the game is fine.

my ? is -- is this the result of a poor burn? would reburning a copy be prudent? or do i need to redo the whole process over again?

i backed up the disc using DVD decrypter (only time i've used it, before i was using a free trial of alcohol 120% and had no problems). i use a messiah9 chip on a PS2v9, burn with a generic Dell burner; all discs are sonic +R of which i've burned 30 backups without any problems.

any advice is greatly appreciated.
