What are some possible issues when deciding whether to use Windows 2K or XP as an OS for a PC dedicated to video work with no internet connection? There is a feeling that XP software is too bloated with internet support functions & 2K would offer more chance for an operator to set up a custom system. Has anybody that has used 2K run into any limitations with an alleged lack of multimedia interface? I read the following information in a forum about setting up PCs for audio editing. There's this story that originated with one of the programmers who wrote 2K & was working on XP. He said that the multimedia drivers in 2K were very poor & at best could only support a stereo sound card. He said that is why you are hard pressed to find pro audio cards with drivers to support 2K. He said even if your card has a driver to support 2K don't believe it because the multi media drivers in 2K aren't capable of handling more than a sound blaster card. He had it out with his boss when they were writing 2K because he wanted to at least put decent multimedia drivers in it but they said it is not meant for multi media productions it is meant to handle big business apps. He said that basically how they started on XP was using windows 2K & the multi media drivers from 98.
The application I'm preparing for would be for working with Premier 6.5 & After Effects 5.5 using a P4, 2.6G processor & ATI "All in Wonder" 9000 PRO. Capturing, editing & DVD burning. Is there any similiarities between running a few video functions & the resources needed for multi-track audio processing?
