I am sure you all have heard this queston before, but Is there anyway to burn to a dvd-r with a cd-rw drive? Is there like a codec or anything I can download for free? Does anyone know where I can get a cheap dvd-rw drive?

Aside from an act of God there's no way you're burning a DVD in a CDRW drive :)

tigerdirect.com is the correct track i would follow, have you considered trying to use VCD as an option. usually needs 2 discs and the quality is like playing a vcr tape on the slowest setting but it can be done. i used to do that all the time the largest obsticle was splitting the file to be burned on more than one cd-r. dub-dvd was my solution. they used to have a free trial version but no longer. hit me back if you want to go down that road and i will go into more of what can and can not be done.

at the end of the day you can burn dvd video onto cd-r media but there are sacrifices in quality that are plenty. dvdxcopy also does a nice brainless job of doing the same thing but some times you need up to 5-6 discs which is just too much pain.
