I'm trying to make a back up of the 1st disc to The Sims 2. Now i found that it's using Safedisc 2 via A Ray. I made an ISO from Alchol %120 and when i load the image onto the "virtual drive" it works great.
When i burn the image onto a disc (i have a 2 sheep burner) it doesn't work well. It displays the Sims 2 loading screen and then it stops. It won't go past that.
(thanks to CDMediaWorld for this article on Safedisc v.2)
Currently there are 2 ways available of dealing with this protection:
- SafeDisc Emulators Create a 1:1 CD-Copy and then use DAEMON Tools, PlayBackup or Insektors to remove the protection from the game!
- Executable UnWrappers unSafeDisc or DumPlayerx can extract the real executable from the encrypted .ICD file, just replace the existing .EXE and burn it back to a CD-R or replace it after the game installation.
If your CD-Reader & CD-Writer both supports DAO RAW + Sub-Channel data then just do the 1:1 CD-Copy. If not, use the DAEMON Tools, PlayBackup, Insectors, unSafeDisc or DumPlayerx to play the game!
Try latest CloneCD 5.0.2.1 release? Protection ID Scanner shows The Sims 2 (CD 1\USA version) is Safedisc 3.20.020 cd protected. I mounted The Sims 2 (CD 1) via Daemon Tools and the game runs smooth sailing. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109110
