I've never personally had any problems with Ritek 4x and 24x CDR's.

But I've never tried those 16x.

Other people have reported some problems with Ritek media but I'm not sure about the 16x.

IF it were ME, I MIGHT pick some of those 16x up.

Do you know who made those Memorex media you had coasters with?

I've made a lot of videocds with the Memorex cd-r discs. (White tops, blue & silver printing; ultra-light green recording side; 50-pack spindles). They all play back fine on my Sony settop, and are quite reasonably priced. Since using them, they've undergone 3 speed-improvements. I don't know what they're rated at now, but since I only burn vcds at 2x or 4x, it doesn't seem to matter.

(I'll never touch a Memorex CD-RW again though). :)

I purchased 6 spools of 50 Ritek Co. 32x CDR's here is the info:
ATIP: 97m 15s 17f
Disc Manufacturer: Ritek Co.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

Needless to say they are incapable of burning @ 32x without 85% Failure Rate. I can burn them @ 16x Perfectly and 20x with about 1/20 failure rate.

It is not needless to say what is your CD-R drive? Your experiences with that RITEK disc doesn't match the general feedback from the public - RiTEK typically performs very well.

What is your CD-R drive?
Have you updated your firmware? - many fw updates provide improved media support
