Replacing standalone DVD-R Recorder Menu with Custom artwork

I own a dvd-r standalone recorder that works great, the only thing I don't like is the lame menu picture it generates. I wish I could replace the recorder menu pixture with a custom picture/artwork I create in a photo-editing program. That's all I want to do. Can someone explain how to do this with let's say DVDREMAKE or some other dvd re-authoring software. The dvd's I make from VHS tapes are really simple, just want a press and play menu.
