Don't worry yourself about their weight just get a good quality branded media such as Ritek and relax.

All depends on the size of the movie.
Lord of the rings is a big movie so obviously its going to be a lot heavier than, say, Finding Nemo. ;)

Well ... let's see ...
A 100pc cakebox from NewEgg.com, weighs 5lbs (2270grams) including packing material and box
Two 50pc cakeboxes from MeritLine.com, weigh 4lbs (1816grams) including packing material and box
All the discs were Ridata DVD+R 4X (blue label)
The NewEgg box was bigger and had a larger shipping label ... maybe this is why it weighed more ??
I just ordered 100 more from SuperMediaStore, I'll let you know how much they weigh if you still care (lol)

There happened to be an Imation DVD+R lying around in my lab, so i weighed it for you and the scale reads 16.096 grams. I trust its accuracy to 0.1 grams.

i highly doubt burning will change the weight by an appreciable amount, since the laser just scorches the dye layer, which is sandwiched between plastic. Nothing would evaporate off since it wouldn't pass through the plastic, so no material is lost.. and nothing is actually deposited either, since you're only shining a laser on the dye. Just for your amusement though I'll do before and after's when i get the chance. :)
