Writing dvd's to a dvd+r disk problem need help

I backup all of my dvd's well i am using nero burning rom. i let a friend barrow a dvd and he lost it now i need to burn my movie file to a dvd+r disk. Well the format for the movie file is .avi i converted it to mpeg file. When i go to load it into nero and write it to the disk it wont let me burn it it. i am not sure why it is doing this i have done some research and cant find anything someone please help me.

also when it is loaded in Nero it acts as if it is going to burn but the burn button is disabled when i take the disk out the burn button is enabled. is i use a normal cd-r the button is enable. i can make music cd's and everything else but i can not write the moive cd
