Hi all,

I apologize if this has already been answered. I have read a lot but since I have no idea what I am doing, it is difficult to find the answer.

I have what I think is a ripped dvd. It contains video_ts and audio_ts folders. The audio folder is empty though there is sound on the video. The video folder contains 2 bup files, 2 ifo files and 2 vob files.

Is this indeed a ripped dvd?

Now on to what I want to do with it if it is already ripped. I would like to grap just a few short bits of the video and put it on the web.

So I need help in cutting out pieces of the video and converting them to a format compatible with the web.

I may be covering too many topic for this forum. But I am so new to all this, I really need some direction and step by step instructions.

I am on windows xp. This is also a hobby project so I would like to avoid having to buy any expensive software.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

it *sounds* like a ripped DVD to me but that's no guarantee. Double clicking on a VOB file should start it playing (assuming you have VOB associated with a player) and that's a good way to check.

As for putting clips on the web - apart from all the usual prohibitions under law that is - you might try a player such as Windvd 6 that allows you to grab clips as animated image files, suitable for th web. Otherwise you'd have to consider streaming video to a website (assuming you want the clip to play live, else just use downloadable AVI files) and not all web hosts allow this.

As for creating small AVI sections of the video I believe you can use DVD Shrink to set start and endpoints for the ripping process. This will rip small sections into AVI... but I've never tried it.

whoops!

Forgot to mention you can use DVD2AVI to convert the resulting VOB files into AVI files.

Thanks. Clicking on the VOB files opens the file and plays the video, so it must be a ripped dvd.

No worries about "prohibitions under law", it's a video of my cousin's wedding. This is the dvd we got from the guy who did the video and they want me to put little parts of it on their wedding site.

I give a look at the software you mentioned.

Thanks.
