In need of help with magic swap disk for ps2 please!!

I recently purchased a fliptop with swap magic disks . I changed my cover and the swap magic dvd disk does load. The insert disk message appears. I open the flip top and insert the backup dvd game. It has the blue background in the insert disk which means it's a good burn. It begins to read the backup and the EA sports NBA LIve 2004 with the vince carter does show up. Then the loading message appears on the bottom of the screen. Right after this the game is supposed to begin. However, it remains at that point. I hear the disk reading, but will not go beyond that point. What's wrong??

Also, what should I be using dvd-r or dvd+ for backing up my playstation 2 games. I am currently using dvd+. I apologize for silly questions, but would appreciate any assistance.

what brand media are you using? +r works, but -r is more compatible.
