My brother turned me on to this. Laplink has a beta file sharing product you can use for free. Just go to their homepage and look for the sharedirect trial.

My brother installed it and then got me to do the same. You have to have .Net installed first. I got that from Windows update. The install was easy. What it does is allow you to designate any folder you want as a shared folder. Then from that folder you can send out invitations to other users of the app to share this folder with them. (And they in turn designate a folder to share with you) This folder then has two views - a top pane and a bottom pane. The top pane has the files you have put in the folder. The bottom pane has all the files that people have shared out with you.

You just double click on the file you want and it is downloaded to your computer. Pretty cool. Just like that you have a totally private file share with anyone you want. My brother was at work when he and I made a connection, so I know it works through firewalls no problems.
