Saving rmvb to VCD.

Just got into the video/movie side of the PC so would appreciate some advice.
I've got some rmvb files and not having much HDD space wondered if it's poss to save them with my cdrw,no DVD.Is there a difference to saving the files so they can be played direct from the cdrw and just backing up the rmvb files to be download back to my HDD and then played from there thru a player.
I'm talking about sizes between 200MB and 500MB.
