Hi,

I run a hardware website (http://www.tbreak.com) and one of the benchmarks I want to introduce is encoding video that can measure performances of CPU and motherboards.

Considering the number of professionals here, I was wondering if anyone can advice me on what would be the best application and procedure.

I would want to use an application that is non-biased (doesnt favour AMD over Intel etc.), can be run under Windows and should provide a final FPS as well as time taken to complete encoding.

I would also appreciate if someone can point out a segment of a movie that would be good to use with this application- something probably very heavy duty that taxes the system a lot.

I'm hoping for a segment instead of a whole movie as that could take a long time to encode and I would prefer tests that can be completed in an hour but not at the expense of producing wrong or incomparable data.

A couple of websites I know use XVID, DVD2AVI and Guradian Knot- are these good applications for what I want?

It would also be great if someone has more ideas on this subject and I would love to hear.
