Storage Life and Compatibility of DVD+R vs DVD+RW

Ignoring the cost differences between the two types of media:

Is the life of the +R DVD longer or shorter than the +RW? What about -R or -RW? and finally "Dash" versus "plus"?

Any thoughts regarding compatibility with stand alone DVD players?

My Experience
Sony DVD player = is very picky and prefers RW
Toshiba DVD player = R or RW
Apex player = will read anything +/- R or RW
....and yes quality of media is important.

I don't believe there's a huge difference in the longevity between the different formats. The biggest factor is the quality of the media being used followed by the quality of the burn and storage conditions.

DVD players can be a very picky lot so your experiences aren't unique :)

I am almost positive that rewritables (RW) have a shorter lifespan than record-once media because of the dyes that are used to allow it to be rewritable. But the difference is somewhat unimportant if you use a good DVD from a reputable manufacturer anyway.
