What would happen if you rented a PS2 game and copied it (patching the ID) and tryed playing it online? i dont want/do it, but i just wondered what would happen?

Nothing. If you happened to be online at the same time as the person renting the game there's a chance you'ld get your ID temp. banned, but this is quite rare.
