Ive just bought a panasonic NV-GS15,and was told that it had everything that I would need to get my movies onto my pc.I can get the still pictures ok but the software provided does not appear to enable me to put it to hard disk. Also it only came with a usb cable, do I need a dv cable?and if so where does it goto on my pc?????????Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
It can be a bit confusing at first. Kinda like its a secret or something. Anyhow, you are going to need a firewire (ieee1394) cable to go from your camera to the PC. You just need to find a firewire port on your computer. If you don't have one installed, you need to get a firewire card and install it. Firewire cables come 6 pin or 4 pin so get the one that fits your camera.
The next thing you need is some software. I use Adobe Premiere Pro to capture and edit with, then Adobe Encore to author the project once I'm done editing it.
These are a bit pricey and not the easiest programs to learn however you get very good results. You have to have a fast computer as well, with lots of RAM and plenty of hard drive room.
I started out with Nero first, I used Nerovision Express 2 and a couple of other similarly priced apps then eventually upgraded to the Adobe products and then upgraded my PC. The Nero 6 package has everything you need to capture, edit, author and burn your DVD. I recommend it as it is low priced, easy to use, fairly bug free and has quite a few other uses as well.
Once you get all that stuff you should be ready to go. Nero has tutorials for all there programs so you may want to take a look before you get this program.
thanks for that fasfrank.I will do what you sugest and let you know I get on.
Once again I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer my question, now I know roughly what I'm needing I should be o.k
Cheers
