SjRick,

If you're trying to backup a DVD you might want to use a DVD disc instead of a CD disc.

A question for you, do you have a DVD burner ?

You'll need a seperate burner to burn DVD's, a CD burner can't do it. After you install a DVD burner you'll need DVD discs to burn a DVD also, CD discs cannot do the job as they are a bit too small.

Is it possible you pasted the wrong log ??

Cheers friend,

Pete

If you have installed SP2 then you must download and run Nero 6.3.1.20 or above.

If you are going to uninstall Nero you must do a "clean" uninstall.

Use all of Nero's Clean tools:

General Clean tool
Registry cleaner and driver cleaner
InCD Clean tool (and checker)

When you reinstall Nero 6 DO NOT install InCD OR if you do, turn it off in msconfig (better to not install it) it can and does cause problems with other proggys.

Hi there rammie, welcome to aD,

Could you tell us alittle about what you're doing and with what you're doing it with ?

After filling us in with your proggys, PC etc. could you tell us exactly where you're having trouble and with what ?

Rammis,

A bit better -
Quote:
Using Nero to burn the video files.
May I assume you have ALL of your files inside a folder that's named VIDEO_TS written EXACTLY like that, all in CAPs ?

May I also assume that you're using Nero's Burning ROM in the Classic mode and NOT in the Wizard as you should be ?

May I suggest that you lower your burning speed to 4X OR if you're having trrouble there try 2.4X and see if you still get the same error -

Let me know how you make out -

Pete

You can assume all those except for the burning at 2.4

Thanks I'll try that and let you know.

BTW my burner is hooked up as a secondary drive and not a master.. can that make any difference?

Yes Rammie, you should have that burner on a primary.

Change that around and see the difference :P)

Rammie,

Made by CMC, Dye type unknown.

Once again, try to change media.

I've posted the best medias, you really need to try some of them. Enough said. Pple make their own choices and should be left alone.

Cheers,

Pete

I understand the media problem but now that I have tried and switched everything around the way it was suggested it won't burn anything.. it keeps saying waiting for the drive to become ready.

Media aside.. is this a problem I can fix.??

Rammie,

If the burner will play DVD's and if it's seen by My Computer - it should also burn CD's.

If the above is right then when you change media a lot will go away.

Think of it like a car with 4 flat tires. You can't tell if the car is driving right until you fix the tires. When the tires are fixed then you'll be able to take it out on the road and see if everything else is OK -

Think on it and it should become clear -

Cheers,

Pete

Hi, I'm having a similar problem, so I thought I'd try here...please help! I'm also getting a "focus or tracking error" every time I try to burn a DVD.

I'm running an HP 2.5GHz Pentium 4 w/512 MB of RAM. My DVD-RW is an HP DVD Writer 200i. I'm using DVD Decrypter to decrypt, DVD Shrink to make the image files (vob, etc.) and Nero Xpress (Nero 6) to burn. I've tried two different types of discs - a Sony DVD+R and an HP DVD+R.

Every time, my disc gets about 25% done, and then crashes and gives me the error. I've tried everything. I turned the burn speed down, I updated the driver for the burner, I updated the firmware for the burner from HP's website (version 1.72). I even went so far as to reformat my hard drive, load only Nero, DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink, and try it again. Still no luck. I tried burning directly from Shrink (i.e. burn to disk using their interface for Nero, instead of saving the image and using Nero separately). No dice.

The only one other thing that I can think of, is that when I reformat, since my HP has a hard drive partition, I don't get to pick and choose what I reistall, since it "resets" to factory settings. This means that I also have RecordNow software installed. However, I don't want to uninstall it, because they don't give you install discs for it with the computer, which means I'd have to do a full system recovery if I want it back.

So, any suggestions?

Hi there BigJMoney,

It almost looks like you're trying to burn an ISO image from DVD Shrink using Nero Express.

I read your post as -
Quote:
I'm using DVD Decrypter to decrypt, DVD Shrink to make the image files (vob, etc.) and Nero Xpress (Nero 6) to burn
You want to be selecting "Hard Disc Folder" and then your location where you want DVD Shrink's VOB files to go in "Backup", "Target Device". You'll know when it's right when you have "Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS sub-folders" with a little "Box" that has a "tick" in it.

When you wish use Nero to burn Nero's VOB files, you'll do much better using Nero's Classic "Burning ROM" in the New Compilation Window.

Use this guide:

BURNING WITH Nero CLASSIC
HINT:
First, create a folder for your work on your desktop OR your HD. - Name it something that you'll be able to find. I named mine C:\All My DVD Work\\The Last Samurai sings Swami (off key). Now load your IFO, BUP and VOB files there - make sure they are in a folder named VIDEO_TS written like that (all in Caps) - some programs like DVD Shrink will make the properly named folder for you, others you must make the folder yourself - Nero needs that folder with all it's contents in order to work properly -

Burning a file made by DVD Shrink.
If you had used DVD Shrink to create a file on your HD you are truly in great shape. When you wish to burn, use the "File Browser" in Nero Classic (don't use Wizard), trace your path back to "All DVD Work\ \The Last Samurai sings Swami (off key)", you don't have to remember where your work is or if you need to do anymore work on it, it is completely finished, ready to go - -

OK then, is everyone comfy ? Good - its now time for - -
"Uncle" ScubaPete's Step by Step, Let's burn with Nero 6 Guide -

First - Do not use Nero Wizard -
Please follow along EXACTLY - (might even want to PRINT IT OUT, it'll make following easier, don't ya know ?)

In case you're finding Nero's Burning ROM hard to find (sometimes it really is hiding (Lol). Go to "Start", "All Programs", "Nero", "Nero 6 Ultra Edition" and there you'll find "Nero Burning ROM" :)

When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the "New Compilation" window. Directly under the title "New Compilation" is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose "DVD". Directly under that click on the "DVD Video Icon." Then click "New" in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen.
You now are in the "DVD Video" window. In the left screen, click "VIDEO_TS". In the "File Browser" screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made earlier holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the "Shift" key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left and release the mouse button.
Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click "OK" and now, clear the room, stand up tall and shout out, "Burn Baby, BURN" ! One more time, let me hear you say it, "Who's your Daddy Now ???"
Guess what my Friend ? You are done !!!

(Wheeew, now I really need a cigarette)

NOW, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! !
Keep all fingers and toes away from Ms. Computer. Never mess with the lady when she's working - it would be hazardous to your health, you understand -
Go and have your coffee, when Nero is done, she'll let you know ;-))

NOW,
if you are going to backup an ISO image, follow this -

When using Nero to burn your ISO image, use Nero StartSmart - "Click" the DVD tab in upper right - then "click" the 5th tab, under DVD tab "Copy and backup" then choose "Burn Image to Disc". This should open Nero Express. Use this to burn your ISO Image to your blank DVD.

Enjoy your backup,

and Let us know what you're using and how you made out -

Pete

PS Both Sony and HP are good discs.

Ok Guys, BOTH of you -

Let's not think about saying "Goodbye" just yet -

We'd still like you to stop by and visit even when you don't have problems you need help with - "Pop" in when you can and cruise around the different forums. You never know when we might have something that can make your computer work a little easier. You might pickup some valuable tips to boot. Checkout the "Safety Valve", it's a place where we "Chew the fat" on just about every topic under the sun. As an extra added bonus, when you see another person with a problem and you feel you might know something that could help, join in. As the Ogre said to the Cyclops, " Three heads are better than two." (Lol) You'll then see how much fun we have helping others. As a current member of our little club you can welcome the new guys in -

We'll look forward to seeing you. "Me ?" You'll find me hangin' out over there by the water cooler, sittin' under the potted palm with my feet propped up, sipping on a "cold one", waiting for the next "Newbie" with a problem that I can help them with - maybe you'd like to join me . . . ?

Sea ya soon -

Pete ;p)
