Hi,

I just received an order from Meritline. I ordered 500 Ridata Ritek G04 4X DVD-R discs. I actually received 500 Taiyo Yuden TYG02 4X discs.

My question is: Are these disc compatible with my NEC 2510A, and are they at least the quality of disc as the Ritek G04?

I have previously used the Ritek discs and was very pleased with them. I just don't want to keep these discs if they are going to give me problems.

Thanks,

Corndog

If you recieved true Taiyo Yuden media then you made out like a bandit. TY is among the best media to be had.

Nephilim,

They are the Taiyo Yuden TYG02 discs. I used DVD Identifier to find out what kind of discs they are.

These discs are listed in the NEC list of recommended discs, but when I burn a disc it goes through the process all the way to the 100% and then I receive an error about not being able to set the disc at once option. The burned disc will play on my stand alone player.

I flashed the firmware from 2.15 to 2.16 thinking this would correct the issue, but I am still getting the same error.

Below is the log that Nero produces at the end of the burn. Any help would be geatly appreciated.

It's odd that something as good as TY if failing like that especially since it's on the list of recommenmded media (though TY is on almost every one!).

Let's see if we can get our resident Nero guru, ccampbell, to give us some insight :)

I'm sure I've seen this before. Does Nero think that your recorder supports Disc-at-Once ? Go into Choose Recorder and look at its properties.

ricster,

You are correct, Nero does show "Disc-at-once" supported. How does one disable this? I couldn't find anywhere to disable it.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I REALLY do appreciate your help. It would be great if I didn't have to return the discs.

Hi Corndog,

When reading any error log, you need to be aware that the very FIRST error message you get is the True problem. Any error message that follows is just a result of the first error message, like a 'Domino Effect'.

In your case, as you can see from the excerpt below of your log file, You recieved a 'Key_Medium_Error' message, which translates to a 'No Seek Complete'. This means the Recorder was unable to determine a begining and End write. Before any write operation occurs, the recorder does a seek at the begining and middle of the media to determine if it can write to the disc, and also what power level to use for writing to the disc, as each disc is different, even if its from the same MFG and same batch of media.

I would recommend that you make sure you have the latest firmware for your recorder, as this is the normal resolution, and make sure you have our latest Nero software. If you still have issues, then it could be caused by:

1) Poor meida
2) Dust on the media
3) Dust on the optical head
4) Poor power to the recorder
5) The Recorder over heating (Provide good airflow above and especially below the recorder where the circuit board is located).

Just to name a few possible causes.

Craig,

Thankyou for your input. I have already flashed the firmware as previously stated. I have the latest update to Nero installed. I can burn Ritek G04 disc perfectly, so I assume it is the TY disc, which are problematic. So is the Disc-at-once setting a non-issue?

Yes, DAO is a non issue. Any DVD write operation is DAO, as the DVD standard does not support TAO.

Craig
