ADJUST THE LASER WHITE COG

Just one question: when adjusting the white cog to fix "the disc Read error" i made a reference point the first time i did it...and whenver i adjust the white cog and I put in a game and press reset it automatically goes back to the original point it started at...is this supposed to happen or not?? and if not whats wrong?!?!?

i turned it like a few twists clockwise/counter clockwise...but i can only turn it a certain amount both ways..like one full circle then it stops me
