Slide tool broke, flip-tops good or bad? Please help ASAP!

First off, I am holding off soldering in a chip as long as possible...

I have Swap Magic and a slide tool, which arrived in the mail last nite. The end of the slide tool broke off and disappeared into my machine. In disgust, I took a pin and a lighter and burned two holes into the tray and threaded some string, in an attempt to slide the tray out that way.

The tray is hard as hell to pull out! Do later versions of PS2s have locks on the sliding mechanism???

Am now thinking of getting a flip-top cover. Are they reliable?

Fliptops are EASY to install, and generally idiot-proof. By nature, manually sliding the tray open and closed is a pain in the a$$ all the time.

There is only one lock that keeps the drive closed, when it is in the closed position only.

Sweet, ordered one last nite. Forcing the tray in and out didn't seem to be a healthy thing for the drive.

Yea. Cool thing is, with the fliptop, you will NEVER have to eject the tray again!
