I just switched DVD burners for one that can burn dual layer discs, then realized that I would pay almost the full cost of a movie in order to back-up my DVD's.

Obviously it is the movie industry making sure that we can't make perfect copies of their over-priced (and often times crappy) movies.

Is there sight of price drop in the near future?

Believe it or not, the price is not due to the movie industry. I've seen a quote from a Ritek executive who stated point blank that until the low end manufacturers became a force in DL media they'd be able to keep the prices high and the margins up. In any case, I wouldn't make any assumptions about how low prices will get when they do come down. DL media will always be more expensive to manufacture than regular media.
