DVD MID Codes - Humour the Newbie Again.......

I can't find the answer to this on a search - here or anywhere else for that matter.

Having been to hell and back trying to get my new DVD writer to work at all, I now realise the importance of buying good compatible disks. I now have a list of disks from my writers manufacturer showing me what I should be buying.

BRILLIANT!

But.... (there's always a but, isn't there......)

They're listed by MID codes.

I've got software that will identify the MID code of my disks (like the Sony +Rs I have which are made by Ricoh.....), but am I expected to have a stab at the right disk and wait til I get home to check it for sure? Are the MID codes shown on the boxes somewhere? Is there a list of MID codes to be downloaded somewhere - surely someone has compiled one?

There are MID codes on the list I have which mean absolutely nothing to me - OK, I know enough already to identify the Ritek G04, but what the hell is a DVSN-80?

Strikes me as plain daft......a sure way of getting people to spend money of product they can't use.....
