Problems backing up some discs--read errors--please help!!

Well, I've been trying to copy some games and it seems I get read errors up the yin-yang at certain points. 2 in particular that are doing it are: Ace Combat 04 and Time Splitters 2. I don't think either are protected. Are they? Is there a protection that gives consistent read errors if you try to create an image?

The discs are somewhat scratched, but it doesn't look like they are extremely so. I backed up a couple games that were a lot more scratched than these two and the images were created with no errors. Is there a way to get around this? I've tried Alcohol (choosing to ignore read errors) and it just locks itself into a loop where it constantly reads errors over and over. I tried DVD Decrypter and it does pretty much the same thing. Should I just let the reading continue for hours hoping that it will finally get past the error part? Is there some software that is better than those two about dealing with errors?

I'm at wit's end about this. Can anyone help?
