I have an old plexwriter that will not read any discs.

On some burned discs it just won't spin up at all and I get the 8 blinking green lights (spindle failed), and on other retial gmames 2 amber lights (Auto adjustment failed)-Cannot read a stamped disc or initialize a CD-R/RW disc because the drive cannot properly configure the focus and track adjustment settings.
I've updated the firmware and checked plextor's website. I think the drive is dead. Anyone have any suggestions on a some drive diagnostic software that can confirm its broken? Any other suggestions?
