Making a DVD movie to watch on my DVD Player

I am new to this and I need to know what do I need to burn a movie on to a dvd to play on my dvd player. I have a pannisonic dvd-ram/r, and also a cd/rewriteable drive. I have been reading all types of forum I know how to burn music but not movies. I already have quite a few movies downloaded on my pc, I can put them on disc but they will only play on my pc. Can somebody please help me??
