OK guys, I read the FAQs and answered some of my own questions. 1 question I have remaining is the DVD 5 v 9? Single v Dual Layer-

I take it I can copy DVD-5 Discs using DVD Decrypt but how do I go about DVD-9 discs?

I thought this would be an easy exercise to copy a DVD to DVD-R but this stuff looks hard! What kinda turnaround times do u guys take to copy a disc? Can I copy films such as the Matrix DVD-9?

hi daveee

yes, dvd-5 vs dvd-9 is single layered (4.7GB) dvds versus dual layered (9.4GB)

for dvd-9s, my method is a simplicity approach. I just rip the movie vobs with dvddecrypter and then strip all the unnecessary audio and subtitles.. if it is under 4.36GB, i can then burn it to dvd-r or dvd+r media (depending on your burner).. otherwise if its over 4.36GB, then you have to transcode the movie and then remux it, look here for details on doing that www.doom9.net, check out the guides, they are good..

my turnaround time now is 6 hours for a dvd-9 movie that has to be transcoded.
for a dvd-5, under an hour gotta love that!

the matrix isn't too bad to do.. i had a hell of a time right away because of the angles and that fact that it is a warner bros film (for some reason when you rip it and transcode the movie and keep the warner bros intro vob id, the .m2v file is messed up, solution: just strip the warner bros VOB ID with ifoeditor) and also just keep the first angle when you rip it with ifoeditor..
peace
