Does anyone else have experience with this? I just bought 100 Ritek G04's because I've used a lot of Ritek media in the past with no problems.

Every disc I create has errors now, 7 of 7 bad. I noticed that the most recent firmware upgrade (1.08) says "improved writing for Ritek 4X DVD-R", so they must have known there was a problem. However, even after upgrading my firmware to 1.08 it has the SAME PROBLEMS. I guess I'll try to return the media; this is the first time I've had any problems of any sort with my 708A or media.

This doesn't belong in DVDR Advanced.

Do you have a direct link to the exact Riteks you bought?

I've been using Ritek Ridata branded media exclusively with my PX-708A (fw 1.06) and haven't experienced a single problem or bad burn.

Well I guess I'll stick with only the Ridata branded discs. These were the "Silver Shiny" Ritek G04 discs bought through meritline. The exact link isn't there any more but here's the page to the product, though I'm sure everyone already knows where to find it:

http://www.meritline.com/ritek-g04-4x-grade-dvd-r-dvdr-blank-media-disc-discs-bulk.html

Is there any way to find out if these are genuine Ritek discs? I'm sure I've read how to do that before but never have. I've trusted meritline in the past but I'm really curious now that these discs are all performing so badly.

sorry for posting in the wrong topic before.

Weird, I just checked out these discs I've been talking about and they're being reported as Ritek G05. I knew the dye wasn't quite the same color as the G04s I've had in the past (it's a much lighter pink, not as dark or purple). I double-checked my receipt and supposedly I did order G04s, so who knows what happened. Anyone had any problems with G05s yet? The report is below. The only other weird thing is that the highest reported recording speed is 4X, even though they're supposedly G05s, a reporting error/typo? Here's the report:
Free Time: 510:40:38 (MM:SS:FF)
Supported Write Speeds: 1x, 2x, 4x

Pre-recorded Information:
Manufacturer ID: RITEKG05

Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Book Type: DVD-R
Part Version: 5
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: 10.08Mbps
Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
Track Density: 0.74 um/track

No worries about posting in the wrong forum ,it happens :)

I'm very skeptical of the unbranded Riteks like the ones you bought simply because I don't know if I'm getting Grade A Riteks. I use branded RiDATA such as these:

I'm in the definite minority around here in the fact that I don't trust or do business with meritline. I checked them out at http://resellerratings.com and was immediately turned off by their low rating. It's http://newegg.com or http://rima.com for me.

There's a good chance you have genuine Riteks, it's just a matter of what grade they are. You can use DVD Identifier to make sure they're Ritek but it can't tell you what grade they are.

I bought 50 Ridata GO5 from vinpower, tried two on my Sony DW-U12A, both failed. I checked them with DVD Identifier which said 1X 2X 4X ( 8X cannot be detected) The burns I tried were at 4X. They are also pinkish not deep purple. One burned ok at 4X on my pioneer 108
