Ok, so I've been backing up my DVDs for about a year now and have never really run into any problems. I've used a variety of media and it all seems to work in both my PC and Xbox/DVD players.

I've been reading thru these forums lately and noticed that most of the media I've been using is catagorized as bad by most of the people in here.

My question is this: Does using bad media only really matter during the burning stage? IE: if I'm able to burn w/o error should I be ok from that point on? Or is burning w/o error only half the battle with bad media?

I guess what I'd like to know is if I'm screwed with all the backups I've made already? I mean they burned fine, and all seem to play fine now.. but am I looking at the degrading sooner rather then later and not working a year down the road?

Nope. The piss poor dye on low quality media doesn't have the data integrity that the quality media does.

Bingo! :)

There are no absolutes when it comes to media, only generalizations. Low quality media generally doesn't last like quality media does.

Is it worth it to be left wondering if your discs are going to last just to pinch a penny? Not for me :)
