I'm continually experiencing problems in transferring Data files onto DVD+R discs. I'm Using the latest version of Nero and I'm continually getting 'Unspecified Burning Error within the first 25% of the Data transfer. If I get past the 25% mark then I'm usually home free and the Disc burns fine. I've tried 3 seperate makes of discs and I'm now having the problems on all discs. I recently started using DVD Decryter and DVD Shrink for copying video onto DVD and they work fine. Is there an equivalent type of software that works better for Data? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how I can configure Nero better? I'm Running Windows XP and the DVD is built into the laptop.

Cheers
Peter

It would help if you could post a Nero log. Be sure to remove the serial # before posting :)

Yes, the Nero Log file would go a long way in providing us information so that we can assist you. I can come up with a dozen reasons why it could happen, but they could all be wrong. With the log file I can provide response that are more helpful. :-)

You are getting the error as soon as the process is ready to burn to disc. Based on the error message and the timing of its occuring I would normally associate this with a problem of the recorder supporting the media you are using.

Have you tried more than one brand of DVD+R or DVD-R media?

Regarads,

Craig

I've used 3 seperate brands of DVD+R discs and I've encountered problems with all of them. I've managed to successfully copy DVD's using DVD Decypher and DVD Shrink for videos but the problem related here is purely when trying to create data discs. I only have Nero and its failing 75% of the times. I've now sourced a copy of Instant CD/DVD to try.

Hi Peter,

Did Instant CD/DVD have any better results?

Also, did you check to see if there is a more recent firmware for your recorder from the MFG?

Craig

Hi Craig, Thanks for keeping an eye on this one. Sadly the Instant CD/DVD program would not load on my Laptop. Says something like there is a DOS program already loaded that it does not like. Strange one but then when I read the user manual its all in German. So its back to the drawing board. I've been searching for other DVD Burning tools and Although there are plenty that concentrate on Movies and Video there's none that even mention Data Backups etc. I did clean my drive with a DVD cleaner and then managed to complete one DVD backup session which was great but I'm back to the drawing board with the second attempt. I have a bunch of data files stored into separate folders and all I want to do is burn the folder as they're all stored in like 4GB limits. I have checked the driver on my DVD burner at its fine. No updates available. It works OK on CD burning via Nero is just frustrating that Data Files seem to cause all these problems.

Cheers
Peter

At this point, I would like to know if it's our software or something else, and the only way to determine that for sure, easily, is to try another software.

You can try downloading a Demo of NTI's software. There website is www.ntius.com, and see if they have the same issue. They do not conflict with us but if you like you can uninstall our software to make sure its not involved in any way.

Regards,

Craig
