I burned a couple of widescreen movies and for some reason, they play back on my home player in full screen mode, but they are stretched vertically to fit... people's faces look a little long etc... is there a setting I'm using incorrectly somewhere? I use DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc. My guess is I'm checking or not checking a box somewhere. I'd appreciate any input.

There should be an option to keep the aspect ratio fixed. I know flaskmpeg has it under Advanced options, altough I can't remember where it is on TMPGENG off hand. I had this problem myself.

OK... I think you're on the right track. It has an option that says "Full screen (keep aspect ratio)" ... that's what I'm using. Maybe that's wrong. I mean why does it say Full screen when the movie was widescreen? I'll research further...thanx

OK... I'm looking at my settings and maybe somebody can tell what's wrong... Using DVD2AVI under "video" and "YUV->RGB I have PC scale checked... is that cool or should it be TV Scale ?

With TMPGenc, what should be chosen under "Video arrange Method" on the advanced tab? and what under "source aspect ratio"? Thanks...

For 'Video Arrange Method', 'Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)' is the default option. I'm not quiet sure what this does.

For Source Aspect Ratio, try '16:9 525 line' if the original movie is NTSC or '16:9 625 line' for PAL. If the picture still ends up being to stretched vertically, try '2.11:1 Display'. 2.11:1 is cinema scope, i.e. large area of block above & below the picture.

I found the problem!!! Under the advanced tab, you select whatever the original DVD is... under the first tab, where it asks for aspect ratio, that's the OUTPUT ratio... choose 4:3 for regular TV sets. Choosing 16:9 is for widescreen TV's so that's great if you have one. 4:3 will make it fit on a regular TV, but will keep the original aspect ratio, which in this case is 16:9 and it'll add the black bars on top and bottom of picture.
